Into The Wild

December 27, 2008

Well well… finally a post on a movie that I liked!

I was really bored with the regular movies and needed a really nice one to watch… the commercial ones were starting to piss me off!

Then, one lazy hour at bangalore..when I was going through Ashraf’s movie folder, I found this..

into-the-wildIts the real life story of   Christopher McCandless, who is a graduate freshly out from the Emory University. His parents have big plans for him, but he doesnt give any one a clue that he’s gonna leave all that belonged to him and live a nomadic life for the rest of his life on a false name of Alexander Supertramp. He goes around several places and spends his life among a variety of people, whom he inspires unknowingly….. everybody likes this nomad boy Supertramp. His choice of life and nature over mundane worldly belongings sort of makes people feel good to be associated with him.

But nobody knows the real name or story of Alex, where his parents were…why he chose such a life? On the other side, his parents were worrying about him, what made him go away, though his sister knew that he was doing a book of .it was a mystery to his parents, who didnt realise that it was because of their greed for money, fights over worldly belongings and even thinking of ending their marriage!

The movie is more interesting than what I tell you guys here…The whole story revolves around his trip to Alaska where he spends the fall..all alone. It would have been more difficult for him if he hadn’t found the MAGIC BUS, an abandoned bus-turned caravan…which has everything that we have at home..everything except food, wate and fuel. As the days pass by, Supertramp loses weight due to the lack of food..there is one scene in which he suceeds to kill a moose, but fails to preserve it, the maggots that are shown flourishing on the rotting meat infact gave me a feeling that they are eating their way through Supertramp’s confidence to survive. Ultimately when he starts eating herbs , finding out which one is edible and which one is not from a book that he has, he does a grave mistake of consuming wild sweet pea mistaking it to be wild potato alaska carrot. This scene is very moving… then the movie concludes slowly showing how he suffers for several days before his death! The scene in which he prepares to die is very touching, I had a lump in my throat….but I never cried..for the whole movie had made me stronger!! If the same scene was shown as a part of some other movie..I would have cried my heart out!!

In the end Alexander Supertramp carves his true name ” Christopher Jhonson McCandless” and writes in one of the books

“HAPPINESS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED”

I suggest that each and everyone of those who is reading this post should watch the movie atleast once!

Popat!

December 10, 2008

Hmmmm… Its been long since I pondered over my intermediate college days!! I usaually hated that part of my life coz there was too much foolish competetion and we were compelled to study to compete with others fools like me, aiming for the I.I.T.’s! Those two years of my life I really want them back. But there were some good things too, one of which is getting exposed to different types of people. One of such person who randomly came to my mind the other day was “Popat”!!!old_man-best-small

Popat was this old guy who was appointed the peon of my college. He was 60+ , dressed in formals with the shirt tucked in and trousers short in length. He was wearing “Hawai chappal”. The whole point…. he’s a old retired guy who was delighted to have the job. Nobody knew his name. Some one called him Popat , and everyone followed the suit. People were making fun of the way he was dressed and the sincerity with which he does his job. The students thought he was a perfect entertainment, a jester at the college! I joined the band wagon initially, but slowly I started realising that I was making fun of his “Majboori”… he had to take all that shit from us because he had to feed his family back at home! For, it was the only chance he’s got, his only job, the only way to feed his hungry family. Who would take an old, weak , retired guy when they can get a young and strong person to do the same job for a lower wage? But who cared then? We all wanted to make fun of him.. humiliate him and flush his ego down the drains!!

I still repent for being a part of that senseless mob which never cared about peoples feelings or integrity!!!
